Raghavi Ramanujan , 8 years, studying in 3rd grade and known as “the little mermaid” of Rainbow International School for her passion and addiction for swimming.
Coached by Mr. Umesh Uttekar, Raghavi aims to win a gold medal in National Swimming Championships representing the State of Maharashtra followed by her dream to participate and win a gold medal in Olympics representing her country, India. Her aim and dream is to make her parents and country proud. She has already achieved half of the milestone.
An extremely focused, exceptionally hard-working, determined and multi-talented girl with numerous achievements at a tender age of eight. She began swimming as a hobby at the age of five, due to the influence of her older brother and with no intention of competing. She was a winner as soon as she participated in her first ever competition at the age of six. Her Mother Mrs. Ramanujan, her biggest inspiration and support system, saw her passion and addiction for swimming, encouraged her all along through her journey and her new-found love for water. She has also outshined in gymnastics, basketball & karate.
Her daily routine includes 2 hours of swimming and 1 hour of conditional training at The Thane Club swimming pool where she is a member at. Raghavi, is accompanied by her Grandmother (Nani) who also encourages her to do her best.
Apart from swimming her hobbies include singing, reading, writing, listening to music and watching inspirational movies. Her current favorite movie is the Amir Khan starrer, Dangal.
An A+ grader in school, Raghavi has participated in many debates and has stood first and won various medals in MATHS (IMO – International Mathematical Olympiad), Science (NSO – National Science Olympiad), English, Sports (ISKO – International Sports Knowledge Olympiad) Olympiads, and second in Computer (NCO - National Cyber Olympiad).
Swimming career and other achievements:
In a span of three years from the age of five to eight, she has participated in the Interschool, District and State level competitions at Thane, Mumbai, Pune and Malvan. She has won 109 medals till date and is looking forward to winning more. With being confident in Breast and Backstroke techniques, she is determined to improve herself in The Butterfly stroke and her speed in all the strokes. From this year on, she is eligible for National level championships and will be using the Backstroke technique. This year, she will be competing with older kids in the Under 10 Category. With being the youngest in the Under 10 Category, she intends to use her height as an added advantage and win the competition.
On 15th January 2017, Rotary Club of Parsik hills held its 2nd Thane Winter Aquatic Championship 2017, where Raghavi bagged her 100th medal. She reminiscences this event as the most memorable one and the happiest one being winning the Thane Mayor Cup swimming competition held at The Thane Club (her home ground aka pool) and having the news published in The Times of India.
She has bagged about 53 gold, 28 silver and 20 bronze medals in swimming till date. She has also secured 12 Individual Championship trophies. Popularly known as “the little mermaid” in school for her achievements in swimming, Raghavi has won herself one more title as “the fastest Open Sea Swimmer” in Malvan, Maharashtra.
